Version 1.04 Update

Greetings all.

I have uploaded a new version of the dual wield plugin for MZ. This one is a doozy, so bear with me here.

  • All battle related changes have been removed.
    • VSBattleCore version 1.23 includes new dual wielding functions, which do very similar things to what this plugin used to do. As a result, my changes are no longer compatible with their system, so I have disabled them.
    • Skills can no longer be locked to the main or offhand, and will no longer auto-lock to the hand of a required weapon.
  • The ability to modify an actors attack value based on what hand the weapon is in (twohanded, dual wield, and offhand modifiers) have been disabled.
  • Menu changes have also been removed.
    • Because of the above change, the functions that would've tracked individual hit, crit, or main or offhand atk values probably do not show the correct values anymore. These changes to the menus have been disabled to prevent incorrect information from being displayed.

As mentioned above, new changes to VSBattleCore have deprecated a large part of what this plugin did. By making it so that the attack skill swings both weapons, shows correct animations per hand, and deals damage and effects based on the traits of the weapon currently being swung, the vast majority of what this plugin did in battle is no longer needed. These functions have been removed, so that the functions that actually still work can continue to do so without interfering with the battle system.

After this update, several actor related changes remain in effect:

  • Weapons can be tagged to only be usable in the main or offhand slot.
  • A shield can be equipped in the offhand weapon slot.
  • Weapons can be tagged to be twohanded, although the twohanded modifier is disabled, so making these weapons more powerful will require you to actually put more atk on them.
  • The main and offhand slots can still be individually named.
  • Actors can be set to be able to monkeygrip or titansgrip, which allows a twohanded weapon in just one, or both hands, respectively.

Going forward, I will be working to make the original functionality of this plugin work without the VSBattleCore plugin. This will allow people who do not use the VS plugin library to make use of this plugin, much in the same way as that the shield block plugin for MZ has no plugin requirements. This isn't something that will happen overnight, but it is on the list of stuff to do.

I have uploaded an older version of the dual wield plugin as well, listed as version 1.03. This version is the last version that worked with the VSBattleCore, and will only work as long as you are using an outdated version of it (version 1.22 or below).

If you have recently purchased this plugin, (since Jan 22, 2021) and feel that the above equipment related changes no longer justify the cost, I will be processing refunds on this plugin. I understand that the current plugin functionality is pretty lackluster, compared to what it once was, and I will be more than happy to return your payment if it is no longer worthwhile for you.

I also left the disabled code, and plugin parameters in the plugin, so the more java savvy of you can attempt to restore some of the missing features, if you feel inclined to do so.

The next version will (hopefully) no longer require the VSBattleCore plugin to work, so that should make it much more approachable for everyone.

That's all for this update. Keep on rpgmaking.
