Version 1.14 Minor Update


Greetings all.

I come to you today with a slight update to the switchable weapons extension. This update has the following changes:

  • Added the ability to turn off the hotkey for switching modes.
  • Added the option to inject a 'change modes' command into the item list window in the equip scene, allowing the player to change weapon modes from the weapon list instead of (or in addition to) via the hotkey.
  • Added plugin parameters to customize the look of this new command, including the text, help text, and the ability to show the switch icon on the command/item.
  • Added a plugin parameter to allow the switch weapon mode command to be added to the item action command window in YEP_ItemCore.

A few things about this update, as well. This was a suggestion from user recoculous, who wanted a way for someone using the mouse or a touch interface to be able to switch weapons. This was the best I could come up with, as touch input is rather limited, and I didn't want to have to define an entirely new touch input type (touch and hold?) specifically for this one use. This allows the player to touch the switchable weapon, and then switch the weapon from the item list, instead of relying on a keyboard hotkey. He had also suggested some sort of automatic switching, where a weapon would switch to one-handed mode if a shield or other weapon were equipped, or go two-handed if nothing was in the offhand. This would've been difficult to do, due to the extra barehand attack the dual wield plugin has. Additionally, monkeygrip would add another layer of difficulty on top of that.

One other thing, when highlighting the switch weapon command in the equip scene, the stat change window does not show the param changes associated with switching weapons. It will show no change at all, until the weapon is swapped, when the itemslot window is selected again after, the params will have updated. I tried for a long time to get the stat change window to show the effects of switching weapon types, but was unable to work around a weird quirk with independent items - changing the weapon on the temp actor (the one whose stats you see on the after section) actually caused the weapon to switch modes on the real actor as well, meaning that in an attempt to preview the weapon swap, simply highlighting the choice to change weapon modes was actually change weapon modes already.  

The best I could do with this was keep the stat change preview the same. Any attempts to work around that quirk proved a failure. I may revisit that at another time in the future.
